Youth soccer in Dunnville has a history going back to around 1970. The Dunnville Youth Soccer Club operated as a house league and also had a couple of teams playing in the Welland area at a more competitive level. These teams did very well, bringing numerous trophies back to Dunnville. During the late 70’s youth soccer changed direction and became affiliated with the Haldimand Youth Soccer Club. There were ups and downs with enrolment, having only two young teams in 1986. However, it grew consistently from that time to nearly 500 youngsters in 2007. It also provided for the growth of women’s soccer.
In 1998 the Dunnville Soccer Park Corporation was formed with the goal of building a soccer park in town. In 2000 the Dunnville Soccer Park was officially opened on the Logan Road. This facility began with 3 full size pitches and 4 mini fields. The following year work started on expanding by another full pitch, 2 more mini fields and 2 mite fields for the very young beginners. These additional pitches were located on land that Jim and Bonnie Hauser had made available for the children. The park was built through the joint efforts of the Dunnville Soccer Park Corporation, the Town of Dunnville and the Haldimand Youth Soccer Club. Lights were installed on the main field in 2002 with support from the Trillium Foundation. A field house followed in 2004 built through a 50/50 cost sharing agreement with Haldimand County having contributed $100,000.00 and Dunnville Soccer Park Corp. raising $110,000.00 with the support of the local soccer community and HYSC. In 2007 the Dunnville youth program was no longer affiliated with HYSC and began operation under the Dunnville United Soccer Club umbrella, bringing us into the Niagara Soccer Association District. After five years within the DUSC, the youth program has returned to its roots and is operating independently as the Dunnville Youth Soccer Club. The men and women will continue to run their teams as the Dunnville United Soccer Club. Both clubs will continue to use the Dunnville Soccer Park as the home facility.
